In the last couple of weeks, a lot of major updates have taken place in the world of Artificial Intelligence, Ranging from Updates to existing Chatbots operations from Google’s Bard to Anthropic’s Claude 2, Elon Musk’s launch of XAI to better understand Humanity, and China’s new Generative AI Guidelines.
AI Beats provides a hint to some of the hottest stories in the AI Space.
It was in November of 2022, that OpenAI’s Viral AI chatbot ChatGPT took the world by storm, from excitement to widespread adoption of the technology, ever since, we have continued to witness new milestones, as big tech and other coalitions race for their piecemeal of the AI Cake. Microsoft’s Huge investment in OpenAI’s ChatGPT and its integration into its Bing search engine was largely seen as a threat to Google’s search Business, prompting Google to launch a code red operation to rival Microsoft’s inroads into the search business.
Google’s Bard New Updates
In late March, Google announced the launch of its ChatGPT Rival, Bard AI which it has dubbed as an experiment, while Bard’s major selling point was its ability to pull sources from internet archives which was not possible with ChatGPT whose knowledge was only updated to 2021.
Bard’s Performance wasn’t really given well-received, as its flaws seemed to outperform its strengths. However, Google has continued to push out updates after updates, as it strives to solidify its stake in the generative AI space. Over the last week, Bard AI got New updates that enabled it to interact with users in over 40 languages, including Arabic, Spanish Chinese, German, Hindi and Spanish, among others as well as access the platform from more places on the planet, such as Brazil and “across Europe,” Jack Krawczyk, Bard Product Lead, and Amarnag Subramanya, Bard’s VP of Engineering, wrote in a blog post Thursday.

As we bring Bard to more regions and languages over time, we’ll continue to use our AI Principles as a guide, incorporate user feedback, and take steps to protect people’s privacy and data.
These new updates have also enabled live conversation with the Chatbot, which has learnt to interact in human languages and can now read out responses to answers just like is possible with Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri in the past. Users can also adjust the tone and style of Bards’ response to five different options including Simple, Long, Short, professional or casual. More features are the ability to pin and rename previous and existing conversations, export code between Replit and Colab, and use Image in prompts.
Welcome Anthropic’s Claude 2
Google Backed AI startup Anthropic AI was among the first to respond to the release of ChatGPT, with its Claude Chatbot, which was dubbed to outperform ChatGPT at its release, or better still a direct alternative to ChatGPT with far much greater capability, with free for all to use policy, setting up against ChatGPT, which introduced paid subscription for Chatbot including its API that currently powers a lot of more other AI applications out there.
The startup has just released its latest updates to Claude AI, the new updates pitch Claude 2 above ChatGPT-4, powered by 4k token inputs which was the highest at its release. Claude 2 now boasts 100k tokens with around 75, 000 words, which enables the AI to generate Much better results, with fewer Hallucinations, as it is now capable of generating storybooks in a few thousand words, there’s also been a significant upgrade in its coding ability, with 71.2% Codex HumanEval benchmark against its previous 56% score.
Powered by constitutional AI, Claude plays safe to 10 “foundational” principles of fairness and autonomy. Claude 2 has also seen a major improvement from its predecessor, making it much harder to manipulate. The latest updates are currently available only in the U.S. and the U.K. and Users will be automatically rolled over once it arrives at their locations.
Musk’s XAI comes enters the race
Telsa’s CEO Elon Musk, has been a prominent voice in the world of Artificial Intelligence, from warning about the potential dangers of the technology, to being named among the founders and biggest financiers of OpenAI, whose modus operandi He has been critical of especially since the launch of its ChatGPT chatbot.
Musk is notorious for taking on big ventures from his Space exploration company SpaceX to his $44 billion dollar acquisition of Twitter. Musk over the past announced on Twitter Space that, He has pulled together a Team of other AI researchers and experts, to launch a New AI firm XAI.
Information from XAI’s website states: Our team is led by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. We have previously worked at DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla, and the University of Toronto. Collectively we contributed some of the most widely used methods in the field, in particular the Adam optimizer, Batch Normalization, Layer Normalization, and the discovery of adversarial examples. We further introduced innovative techniques and analyses such as Transformer-XL, Autoformalization, the Memorizing Transformer, Batch Size Scaling, and μTransfer. We have worked on and led the development of some of the largest breakthroughs in the field including AlphaStar, AlphaCode, Inception, Minerva, GPT-3.5, and GPT-4.
Musk stated that the goal of XAI is to better understand humanity. The intention is to create AI systems that are smarter than humans currently are. Excited Elon said that questions about the nature of dark matter or unsolved aspects of how gravity works could be among the mysteries his company seeks to explain.
Also speaking one of XAI’s co-founders Jimmy Ba, a University of Toronto professor and Well-Known AI researcher, said the goal is to create an AI that can help with a range of problems facing humanity.
He also went on to query; How can we build a general-purpose problem-solving machine to help all of us, humanity, overcome the most challenging and ambitious problems out there, and how can we use those tools to augment ourselves and empower?
China CAC Mandates Generative AI content to adhere to the core value of its Socialist Party
While other countries are still contemplating how to contain what is possible with Generative AI, China has taken the front row in terms of mulling out regulatory policy for Generative AI, a Leap that other countries might adopt or adjust to.
The Cyberspace Administration of China, released the latest version of its AI guidelines on July 13, at World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. Some restrictions from the initial draft, which was first published in April and open to public comment, have been removed or clarified. According to Chinese Authorities New Rules, generative AI programs must.

programs must “adhere to core values of socialism” and cannot be used to attempt to overthrow the state power of the socialist system. Algorithms that can influence public opinions, the rules say, must be registered with the relevant authority. Providers of generative AI services are also mandated by the law to ensure that they obtain licenses from the right authorities before making their offerings public. However, this policy exempts AI technologies that are for use outside of China.
Generative AI technology by this mandate is to ensure that their systems do not discriminate based on ethnicity, gender, age, occupation, or health and should not be used for anti-competitive behaviour.
Service providers are encouraged to create an anti-addiction system for underage users, similar to those used in video gaming. In a nutshell, the New Policy “encourages the innovative use of generative AI in all industries and fields” and supports the development of “secure and trustworthy” chips, software, tools, computing power, and data sources. China also wants its tech companies to participate in the “formulation of international rules and standards” about generative AI.
